Following an intensive investigation spanning one month and eight days, conducted by the Polda Metro Jaya Cyber Directorate, three alleged perpetrators identified as RJ, LBK, and NRA, were apprehended. Their arrests took place across Singkawang and Pontianak in West Kalimantan, signaling a crucial breakthrough in combating sophisticated cyber financial crimes.

During a press conference held at Polda Metro Jaya on Friday (31/10), AKBP Fian Yunus, Deputy Director of Cyber Polda Metro Jaya, detailed the meticulous efforts involved. He stated, “Investigators required one month and eight days to successfully identify and apprehend the individuals behind this online scam and money laundering operation. The arrests were executed in the West Singkawang and Pontianak regions.”

Fian elaborated on the scammers’ elaborate tactics, explaining how they leveraged popular social media platforms like Instagram, WhatsApp, and Telegram. The syndicate created convincing fake social media accounts, using them to disseminate fraudulent links designed to ensnare unsuspecting members of the public.

Posing deceptively as legitimate securities firms or Digital Financial Asset Traders (PAKD), these fraudsters lured victims with enticing promises of exceptionally high returns on their investments.

“The perpetrators meticulously crafted their deception, presenting themselves as reputable securities professionals and PAKD or Digital Financial Asset Traders,” Fian emphasized. He further clarified, “They enticed victims into stock trading, promising exclusive ‘tricks and methods’ to guarantee substantial profits and successful transactions, effectively fabricating a facade of expertise and reliability.”

Crucially, the ongoing investigation revealed the transnational nature of this elaborate fraud. Police intelligence indicated that the scam network extended far beyond Indonesia’s borders, tracing connections to operatives in Malaysia and Cambodia.

The suspects apprehended in Indonesia are believed to be part of the “first cluster” within this intricate international syndicate. Their primary role involved facilitating the network’s operations by recruiting individuals to create numerous fraudulent bank accounts, shell companies, and crypto accounts.

AKBP Rafles Langgak Putra, Head of Sub-directorate 3 of Ditseber Polda Metro Jaya, explained their specific function: “These three individuals belong to the first cluster, operating within Indonesia. Their mandate was to extensively recruit individuals willing to provide their identities for the establishment of bank accounts, company registrations, and crypto accounts, all essential for the network’s illicit financial activities.”

In a related development, Aditya Mahendra, the Middle Manager of the Task Force for Eradicating Illegal Financial Activities (Satgas Pasti), commended Polda Metro Jaya’s decisive action. He expressed profound appreciation for their diligent efforts in uncovering and dismantling this complex scam operation, culminating in the arrests of the perpetrators.

“Satgas Pasti extends its utmost appreciation for Polda Metro Jaya’s comprehensive approach, from the initial investigation and disclosure of this fraud case to the successful apprehension of those responsible,” Aditya stated, highlighting the police force’s commitment to public protection.

Aditya also underscored a concerning national trend: the escalating number of online fraud cases across Indonesia. Citing data from the Indonesia Antiscam Center, as of October 15, 2025, there have been a staggering 297,217 reported cases, resulting in colossal financial losses estimated at a staggering IDR 7 trillion. This grim statistic further emphasizes the critical importance of sustained efforts by law enforcement agencies like Polda Metro Jaya in safeguarding the public from pervasive financial cybercrime.
