The French Embassy in Jakarta formally expressed its gratitude, with Police Attaché Commandant De Police Chassot conveying his appreciation to the Indonesian National Police. “I extend my thanks for the outstanding work of the Indonesian police, particularly the Tanjung Priok Police, who have shown high dedication in resolving this case,” Chassot declared during a press conference held at the Tanjung Priok Port Police headquarters.
Chassot further emphasized the paramount importance of securing French citizens abroad, praising the effective communication maintained between the police and the victim throughout the investigation process. The mugging incident, which prompted this swift police action, occurred on Wednesday (March 5th) afternoon. Marion Parent (41) and her child were taking photographs near the Sunda Kelapa Port when they were approached by several perpetrators who brandished knives and forcibly stole their camera. The incident highlighted an immediate need for robust security measures in tourist-frequented areas.
In a commendable display of efficiency, the Tanjung Priok Port Police acted promptly and successfully apprehended eight suspects. This group included three primary perpetrators, identified as local fish loaders, along with four individuals involved in receiving stolen goods (fences), and one suspect who had initially evaded capture. This comprehensive operation brought all those involved to justice.
