IHSG Plunges 6.61% in One Week, Market Cap Falls to Rp12,736 Trillion

The Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) has reported a challenging week for the Composite Stock Price Index (IHSG) during the period of April 20-24, 2026. The index closed at 7,129.490, marking a significant decline of 6.61 percent from the previous week’s position of 7,643.004.

Aulia Noviana Utami Putri, Acting Corporate Secretary of the IDX, noted that the exchange’s market capitalization also saw a contraction of 6.59 percent, falling to IDR 12,736 trillion from IDR 13,635 trillion recorded the prior week.

Despite the downward pressure on indices, market activity showed mixed results. “The daily transaction frequency for the week rose by 1.09 percent to 2.75 million transactions, compared to 2.72 million in the previous week,” Noviana stated in a written release on Saturday, April 25. Similarly, the average daily transaction volume climbed by 4.44 percent, reaching 44.88 billion shares from the previous week’s 42.98 billion.

Conversely, the average daily transaction value experienced a slight dip, falling 3.67 percent to IDR 19.61 trillion from IDR 20.36 trillion the week prior. Foreign investor sentiment remained cautious, with a net sell of IDR 2.002 trillion recorded by the close of Friday, April 24. This brings the total foreign net sell for the year 2026 to IDR 42.809 trillion.

Indonesia’s Investor Base Surges Past 26 Million

In a promising long-term outlook, the IDX reported robust growth in the number of capital market investors. As of April 24, 2026, the total number of Single Investor Identification (SID) accounts reached 26,121,311, representing a substantial 28.37 percent increase on a year-to-date (ytd) basis.

This surge was driven by the addition of 5,773,486 new capital market investors, averaging approximately 50,645 new SIDs per day. This steady influx underscores the sustained public interest in investing within the Indonesian capital market.

The equity market specifically also enjoyed healthy expansion. The total number of stock investors rose to 9,523,625 SIDs, reflecting a 10.69 percent growth year-to-date. Throughout the current year, the market has welcomed 919,448 new stock investors, maintaining an average growth rate of 8,065 SIDs per day.
