Purbaya confirmed that he has received the green light from the Daya Anagata Nusantara Investment Management Agency (BPI Danantara) to designate PNM as a Special Mission Vehicle (SMV) under the Ministry of Finance. “PNM is currently in discussions with Danantara, and we have already received their approval,” Purbaya stated during a media briefing at the Ministry of Finance office in Central Jakarta on Monday (11/5).

The acquisition process involves a strategic asset swap. As part of the agreement, one of the Ministry of Finance’s existing SMVs, PT Geo Dipa Energi (Persero), will be transferred to the oversight of Danantara Indonesia. Although the Minister initially hoped to retain both entities as SMVs, Danantara required a trade-off. “It looks like a swap with Geo Dipa. I wanted both, but they would not allow it,” Purbaya explained.

While a definitive timeline for the completion of the acquisition has not been finalized, Purbaya emphasized that the government aims to execute the transfer as quickly as possible. He acknowledged that the structural transition of PNM into a Ministry of Finance-managed SMV requires careful implementation, yet he remains optimistic about the pace of progress.

The Ministry expects to secure full formal endorsement from Danantara Indonesia within the next two months. “We want it done as soon as possible. While the actual implementation takes time, the official approval should be finalized within the next two months,” he added.

Under Purbaya’s leadership, the Ministry of Finance intends for PNM to become an official distributor of the People’s Business Credit (KUR) scheme, potentially operating under the framework of PT SMI or the Public Investment Agency (PIP), both of which are Ministry of Finance special vehicles. Looking further ahead, the long-term goal is to transform PNM into a dedicated bank focused on Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).

Summary

The Indonesian government has initiated a strategic transition to place PT Permodalan Nasional Madani (PNM) under the direct supervision of the Ministry of Finance as a Special Mission Vehicle. To facilitate this move, the Ministry will transfer PT Geo Dipa Energi to the Daya Anagata Nusantara Investment Management Agency (BPI Danantara) as part of an asset swap agreement. Officials expect to finalize this structural transition within the next two months.

This shift aims to integrate PNM into the government’s financial framework, allowing it to become a formal distributor for the People’s Business Credit (KUR) scheme. In the long term, the Ministry plans to evolve PNM into a specialized banking entity focused on supporting Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises. Despite the complexity of the transfer, the government is committed to executing the process as quickly as possible.
