These funds are designated for critical national infrastructure, including the expansion of rural electricity access and the development of urban natural gas networks.
Ahmad Erani Yustika, Secretary General of the Ministry of ESDM, confirmed the approval during a briefing at the Ministry’s office in Jakarta on Tuesday (May 19). He stated that the supplemental budget for 2026 will be instrumental in meeting the government’s ambitious infrastructure targets.
A primary focus of this funding is the rural electrification program (Lisdes), a top priority for the administration as it strives to ensure universal energy access by 2029. “The goal is clear: by 2029, the project must be completed so that every citizen has access to electricity,” Erani emphasized.
This development follows the formal approval by Commission XII of the House of Representatives (DPR RI) in September 2025, which set the Ministry of ESDM’s definitive budget ceiling for the 2026 fiscal year at Rp 21.67 trillion. This figure represents a significant increase from the initial proposal of Rp 8.12 trillion.
Beyond routine operational expenses, the budget is strategically aligned with the vision and mission of President Prabowo Subianto, specifically focusing on boosting the national electrification ratio. Deputy Minister of ESDM Yuliot further explained that of the total budget, an additional Rp 8.55 trillion—with Rp 5 trillion specifically earmarked for rural electrification—will fund infrastructure projects across 1,135 targeted locations.
In addition to expanding electrical grids, the 2026 infrastructure allocation will support several social initiatives. These include the distribution of converter kits for fishermen, the construction of natural gas pipelines (jargas), and programs providing free new electricity installation assistance for low-income households, ensuring that the benefits of the ministry’s development reach those who need them most.
