A tragic incident occurred in Sukamulya Village, Cikupa, Tangerang Regency, on Saturday (May 30), when a teenage girl identified as J lost her life after becoming trapped in a bathroom during a fire at a local motorcycle repair shop. The fire, which broke out at approximately 3:00 PM WIB, resulted in a fatal outcome despite emergency efforts.
At the time of the incident, the victim was sitting in the back area of the shop, occupied with her mobile phone. Nearby, two witnesses, Tri and Ade, were performing maintenance on motorcycles. According to Ipda Syaiful Rusdiansyah, head of the Criminal Investigation Unit at Cikupa Police, the fire originated from work being conducted by the witnesses. “Witness Ade was repairing a motorcycle component, specifically a shield water pump, using a portable gas torch,” he explained.
Simultaneously, the second witness, Tri, was in the process of cleaning a motorcycle fuel tank. The situation escalated rapidly when the flame from the gas torch ignited the fuel tank Tri was handling. In a moment of panic, Tri instinctively threw the burning tank into the shop, causing the fire to spread instantly and engulf the interior of the building.
Trapped by the fast-moving flames, the victim attempted to find safety by retreating into the shop’s bathroom. Unfortunately, the intensity of the blaze prevented her escape. “The victim was discovered deceased, found in a seated position inside the bathroom. Her body has since been evacuated and transported to the Balaraja Regional General Hospital (RSUD),” the officer stated.
Firefighters from the Tangerang Regency BPBD successfully brought the fire under control using two fire engines. By 3:30 PM WIB, the flames were fully extinguished, allowing authorities to begin the recovery process. Investigations revealed that the fire was exacerbated by the use of carburetor cleaner during the repair work, which acted as an accelerant and caused the fire to spread rapidly throughout the premises.
