Hundreds of Homes Submerged
The flood crisis has also gripped Nagan Raya Regency, where more than 100 residential units in the Beutong Ateuh Banggalang Sub-district have been engulfed by rising waters. The overflow floods here have reached alarming depths, ranging from 50 to 90 centimeters.
“Currently, access to Beutong Ateuh Banggalang remains completely severed. We are continuously striving to reach and assess the condition of the communities in this isolated highland area,” explained Irfanda Rinaldi, the Head of BPBD Nagan Raya, Aceh.
Among the villages severely impacted by the overflow floods in Beutong Ateuh Banggalang Sub-district, Nagan Raya Regency, Aceh, are Babah Suak, Blang Puuk, Kuta Teungoh, and Blang Meurandeh.
Irfanda highlighted that a devastating consequence of these floods is the extensive damage to public infrastructure. Vital roads and bridges have been swept away or severely compromised by the relentless floodwaters.
“A critical bridge on the provincial road connecting Nagan Raya and Central Aceh has sustained severe damage from the surging floods,” Irfanda further elaborated, emphasizing the gravity of the situation.
Consequently, transport routes to the Beutong Ateuh Banggalang region of Nagan Raya Regency, Aceh, as well as towards Takengon in Central Aceh Regency, have been completely cut off. This paralysis in connectivity is due to the severe damage inflicted upon both road segments and the aforementioned bridge.
He noted that the floods ravaging Beutong Ateuh Banggalang are significantly more severe than those experienced in previous years, effectively paralyzing all community activities within the affected areas.
Irfanda also confirmed that, for the time being, no fatalities have been reported among residents as a direct result of the natural disaster striking Beutong Ateuh Banggalang, Nagan Raya Regency, Aceh.
“Our teams are presently focused on accurately documenting the number of individuals and communities impacted by this natural calamity,” Irfanda Rinaldi concluded, underscoring the ongoing efforts to ascertain the full extent of the disaster.
