The Indonesian National Police’s Criminal Investigation Department (Bareskrim Polri) has uncovered alarming new details in its ongoing investigation into the misuse of nitrous oxide (N₂O), popularly known as “laughing gas,” sold under the brand name Whip Pink. Recent findings reveal that consumers have been purchasing the product online for recreational use, leading to severe health complications.
Kombes Pol Zulkarnain Harahap, head of Sub-directorate III of the Narcotics Investigation Directorate, stated that investigators have questioned several users, including a 29-year-old individual identified as AM. During the investigation, AM revealed that they first encountered the product at a nightclub in the Pantai Indah Kapuk (PIK) area of North Jakarta. The gas was reportedly served via balloons, after which the user began ordering the product directly through the brand’s Instagram page and WhatsApp admin.
AM admitted to consuming the gas personally between January and March 2026. This recreational use eventually took a dangerous toll on the consumer’s health. Zulkarnain noted that AM required intensive hospital care in Tangerang after suffering from a loss of motor control, particularly in their legs. “AM experienced temporary paralysis, which even caused them to fall down the stairs at home,” Zulkarnain reported.

The investigation has expanded to include another consumer, identified as CD. Findings from CD’s testimony indicate a recurring pattern of purchase; the individual reportedly ordered the product more than five times between mid-2025 and early 2026. CD discovered the product by searching for the keyword “whip cream” on Google, which led them to a WhatsApp business account associated with PT Suplaindo Sukses Sejahtera (PT SSS). According to CD, the gas—supplied in 640g and 950g canisters—was consumed by placing the nozzle directly into the mouth and releasing the gas.
Bareskrim is currently investigating the widespread abuse of Whip Pink, which has recently sparked significant controversy on social media due to its alleged use as a substitute for illicit drugs. As the probe intensifies, authorities are taking a firm stance against those who fail to cooperate. Police plan to forcibly summon two prominent influencers—a female celebrity (ZNM) and a male YouTuber (RV)—after they failed to attend two previous summonses regarding their alleged consumption of the product.
Brigjen Eko Hadi Santoso, Director of Narcotics Crimes at Bareskrim Polri, confirmed that these summonses follow extensive investigative work. This includes questioning employees of PT Suplaindo Sukses Sejahtera, analyzing internal sales documents, and conducting digital forensics on the mobile devices of company sales personnel. “Based on the examination of witnesses, sales documentation, and digital evidence, we are proceeding with the summons of consumers who have made significant purchases of Whip Pink canisters,” Eko concluded.
Summary
The Indonesian National Police’s Criminal Investigation Department is investigating the recreational misuse of Whip Pink, a nitrous oxide product marketed for culinary use. Authorities launched the probe following reports of severe health complications, including temporary paralysis and loss of motor control, among consumers who inhaled the gas from canisters. Evidence indicates that users frequently purchased the product online and through social media platforms, often using it as a substitute for illicit substances.
The investigation has expanded to include the analysis of sales records from PT Suplaindo Sukses Sejahtera and digital forensics on company communication channels. Police are now taking firm action against non-cooperative consumers, including plans to forcibly summon prominent influencers who failed to appear for questioning. Officials are conducting a comprehensive review of witness testimonies and documentation to address the widespread abuse of this gas.
