Commission III Confident Polda Metro Jaya Will Comply with Andrie Yunus Ruling

Ahmad Sahroni, Deputy Chair of Commission III of the House of Representatives, has urged the Jakarta Metro Police to comply with a recent court ruling regarding the acid attack case involving KontraS activist Andrie Yunus. This call follows a decision by the South Jakarta District Court, which granted a pretrial motion challenging the police’s handling of the investigation.

“Once a court ruling establishes a legal basis, the police must follow it accordingly,” Sahroni stated on Tuesday (June 2). He expressed confidence that the Jakarta Metro Police would adhere to established legal procedures, noting, “I am certain the police will proceed in accordance with the applicable regulations.”

The South Jakarta District Court’s decision comes after a legal challenge filed by the Advocacy Team for Democracy (TAUD) on behalf of Andrie Yunus against the General Criminal Investigation Directorate of the Jakarta Metro Police. The pretrial motion was initiated in response to allegations of undue delay and the quiet termination of the investigation. The police had previously transferred the case entirely to the Military Police Center (Puspom TNI) after identifying four members of the Indonesian Military’s Strategic Intelligence Agency (BAIS TNI) as the perpetrators on the ground.

Through the pretrial process, legal counsel for Andrie Yunus sought a judicial order compelling the Jakarta Metro Police to reopen the investigation within the public court system. Evidence, including CCTV footage, strongly suggests that 16 individuals were involved in the attack. This includes suspected involvement by civilians and potential intellectual actors who have yet to be held accountable.

In his ruling, Judge Suparna affirmed that the petitioner held the legal standing to bring the case forward. The court partially granted the motion, issuing a clear directive for the police to resume legal proceedings. “The court grants the petitioner’s request in part,” stated Judge Suparna. “We order the respondent to resume the legal process regarding police report number LP/A/222/III/2026/Sat Reskrim/Restro Jakpus/Polda Metro Jaya, dated March 13, 2026.”

Summary

Ahmad Sahroni, Deputy Chair of Commission III of the House of Representatives, has urged the Jakarta Metro Police to comply with a South Jakarta District Court ruling regarding the acid attack on activist Andrie Yunus. The court’s decision followed a pretrial motion filed by the Advocacy Team for Democracy, which challenged the police’s decision to halt the investigation after transferring the case to the Military Police. Sahroni expressed confidence that the police will adhere to these legal procedures and proceed according to the court’s mandate.

The court has officially ordered the Jakarta Metro Police to resume the investigation into the case, noting that evidence suggests the involvement of 16 individuals, including civilians and potential masterminds. By granting the motion, the judge directed the police to continue the legal process for the case officially registered on March 13, 2026. This ruling aims to ensure accountability for all perpetrators involved in the attack beyond those already identified by the military.
