In a significant move poised to reshape Indonesian futsal, Michael Victor Sianipar, Chairman of the Indonesian Futsal Federation (FFI), has unveiled plans for the establishment of a dedicated National Team Body (BTN). This strategic initiative aims to provide highly specialized management and focused oversight for the Indonesian Futsal National Team.

This pioneering step forms a crucial part of the FFI’s ambitious roadmap, designed to elevate the Indonesian Futsal National Team to unprecedented levels of success in upcoming international competitions. The formation of the BTN is intended to streamline operations, ensuring that all aspects of national team management are handled with greater focus and structured efficiency.

“The federation is actually thinking about forming a national team body in the future to focus more on those matters,” Sianipar stated during a press conference in Jakarta on Monday, December 22, 2025, attended by media outlets including Bolasport.com.

Sianipar, who is also a politician from the Perindo Party, underscored the critical importance of providing the national team with “proper” facilities and comprehensive training programs. He elaborated, “For the national team, we must certainly prepare its facilities, ensure all training camps are proper, covering both technical and administrative aspects.”

Beyond the establishment of the BTN, the FFI remains steadfast in its commitment to strengthening youth development programs and maintaining highly disciplined league operations. These initiatives are considered foundational pillars for the future success and sustainable performance of the national team.

Sianipar further highlighted the necessity of optimizing every FIFA Match Day opportunity and proactively seeking participation in various international tournaments. This continuous international exposure is deemed essential for the progressive development of the Indonesian Futsal National Team.

He explained, “Every FIFA Match Day must be optimized. Perhaps our capacity doesn’t always allow us to host all events, as organizing them incurs costs. However, if we cannot host an event, like the 4-nation world series we once organized, we will actively seek out countries that are hosting competitions.”

The FFI Chairman also stressed the indispensable role of domestic leagues in nurturing national team players. He pointed out that national team athletes spend the majority of their time with their respective clubs, making strong club-level development paramount.

“Broadly speaking, the league is also very important. We must remember that all our national team players originate from the league; they are with the national team for only three months in a year, while for the remaining nine months, these athletes are with their respective clubs,” Sianipar elaborated.

The recent string of achievements by the Indonesian Futsal National Team, including winning the AFF Cup 2024 and securing a gold medal at the SEA Games 2025, stands as compelling evidence of the federation’s successful programs implemented thus far. These triumphs demonstrate the efficacy of their strategic initiatives.

The Pro Futsal League (PFL), serving as the highest tier of futsal competition in Indonesia, has been instrumental in producing a wealth of talented players who form the backbone of the “Tim Futsal Garuda” (Garuda Futsal Team). Not only does the PFL develop skilled players, but it also serves as a fertile ground for exceptional coaches, such as Hector Souto, who is now the national team head coach after previously leading Bintang Timur Surabaya (BTS).

Sianipar concluded by emphasizing the critical importance for the federation to ensure that the playing patterns, discipline, and winning mentality cultivated within the national team are consistently applied at the club level. “We must align these aspects so that the schemes, discipline, playing style, and mentality we build in the national team are also implemented at the club level, because if we harbor ambitions for the national team but the clubs are not necessarily in sync, the results will not be optimal,” he asserted, highlighting the need for cohesive development across all levels of Indonesian futsal.
