Gaza Flotilla Intercepted; One Ship Remains at Sea

The Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF) has released a comprehensive list of vessels allegedly intercepted illegally by Israel in international waters near Gaza on October 1-2, 2025. In a press statement issued on Thursday, October 2, the GSF confirmed that 41 ships carrying hundreds of dedicated volunteers from 47 nations were subjected to these interceptions.

According to the GSF’s report, hundreds of participants aboard the flotilla were apprehended and subsequently transferred to the Israeli warship MSC Johannesburg. Prior to their capture, volunteers reportedly endured assaults involving water cannons, foul-smelling liquids, and the deliberate disruption of their communication systems, raising serious concerns about the treatment of humanitarian activists at sea.

“This constitutes an unlawful abduction, a clear violation of international law and fundamental human rights,” stated the Global Sumud Flotilla unequivocally. The organization further asserted, “Intercepting humanitarian vessels in international waters is a war crime, and denying legal counsel while concealing the whereabouts of detainees also falls under this grave category of offenses.”

Adalah, a prominent legal group representing the flotilla volunteers before Israeli authorities, has so far received only limited information regarding the fate of the activists. An estimated 443 volunteers are believed to have been forcibly detained, with expectations that they will be transported to Ashdod port for processing under conditions deemed by the GSF as illegal detention.

The following is a detailed list of the 41 Global Sumud Flotilla vessels, comprising those confirmed to have been illegally intercepted by Israel and others that lost contact and are presumed to have also been intercepted:

Amidst these developments, one vessel, the Marinnete, carrying six individuals and flying the Polish flag, courageously continues its journey, attempting to break through the Israeli blockade of Gaza. The GSF reported that the Marinnete had initially experienced technical difficulties, causing it to fall behind the main convoy. Despite this setback, the crew opted not to retreat, instead demonstrating remarkable resolve by continuing to sail forward.

“The Marinnete is more than just a ship; it embodies ‘Sumud,’ which represents steadfastness and resilience in the face of Israeli fear and brutality,” the GSF emphasized, highlighting the symbolic importance of the vessel’s perseverance.

In total, the GSF flotilla comprised 44 vessels. This number includes the 22 ships confirmed as intercepted, the 19 vessels that lost contact and are believed to have been intercepted, the single ship still actively sailing, and two observer ships, the Summer Time-Jong and the Shireen. These observer vessels turned back from the mission to collect crucial documents and evidence of alleged Israeli violations.

Among the global volunteers, Muhammad Husein, representing Indonesia, was on board the Summer Time-Jong alongside 20 other international activists. Their current course is set for Cyprus, where they intend to dock, carrying vital information and accounts of the maritime incident.
