“We have received reports regarding these activities, which have also gone viral across various media platforms. Tonight, the Satpol PP is actively monitoring the location,” stated Goodman Sidabutar, a West Jakarta Satpol PP officer, when contacted in Jakarta on Friday. He further clarified that while monitoring is underway, the actual enforcement actions will be implemented at a later stage. “So, tonight is solely for surveillance. The enforcement action will follow subsequently,” he added.

This swift response comes after West Jakarta Mayor Uus Kuswanto issued a direct instruction to the Satpol PP to address and control same-sex prostitution prevalent in the park area of Jalan Daan Mogot, specifically within the Cengkareng district. Mayor Kuswanto even urged the Satpol PP to apprehend perpetrators on sight, ensuring they face appropriate legal action. “Yes, I have instructed the Head of Satpol PP to monitor the area and promptly initiate enforcement. If individuals engaging in these activities are found, they should be arrested immediately and dealt with according to the prevailing laws and regulations,” Mayor Kuswanto emphasized.

The Mayor’s decisive directive was prompted by numerous complaints from residents regarding the pervasive homosexual activities in the area. He underscored the fundamental purpose of public spaces: “The median strip park along Jalan Daan Mogot is a public space; therefore, it must be utilized appropriately. Prostitution, under any circumstances, is not permissible there.”

To further bolster these efforts, Mayor Kuswanto also requested the Cengkareng sub-district administration to erect banners at the location. These banners will serve as a clear public deterrent against illicit activities, specifically targeting same-sex prostitution and other inappropriate behaviors, as part of the broader crackdown. “I have also asked the local administration (Cengkareng sub-district) to install banners at the site to prevent the recurrence of same-sex prostitution or any other undesirable activities,” he concluded.
