Jember Regional Legislative Council (DPRD) member Achmad Syahri Assidiqi, widely known as Lora Syahri, has been issued a final stern warning by the Gerindra Party’s internal disciplinary tribunal. The sanctions were handed down during a hearing held in Jakarta on Friday, May 15, after the politician was found guilty of violating the party’s code of conduct.
The disciplinary action stems from an incident on Monday, May 11, 2026, where Syahri was captured on camera smoking and playing mobile games during a critical health-related hearing at the Jember DPRD consultation room. The footage of his conduct sparked public outcry and quickly went viral across various media platforms.
Despite the swift action taken by the Gerindra Party, the path to formal ethics proceedings within the Jember DPRD remains complicated. Muhammad Hafidi, Chairman of the DPRD’s Honorary Board (BK), clarified that his office operates independently from the Gerindra disciplinary tribunal, noting that the scope of their authority differs significantly.
“The authority of the BK is governed by specific procedural regulations. We are currently waiting for a formal disposition from the DPRD leadership,” Hafidi stated. He added that while the incident has received significant public attention, the BK has yet to receive an official written complaint, which is a mandatory prerequisite for opening an ethics investigation. “If a report is submitted, we will certainly take the necessary steps to handle the matter,” he added.
Meanwhile, the Chairman of the Jember DPRD, Ahmad Halim, remains in Jakarta to monitor the final outcome of the Gerindra disciplinary process. Halim, who also serves as the Chairman of the Gerindra Jember Branch, confirmed that the council is awaiting the official ruling document from the party’s central tribunal before deciding how to proceed internally.

In response to the ruling, Syahri has publicly expressed his sincere apologies and stated that he accepts the party’s decision without reservation. Reflecting on his behavior, he described the incident as a momentary lapse in judgment.
“I was merely acting out of impulse, as any human is capable of doing. I respect and will abide by the decision of the party’s tribunal,” Syahri said. He emphasized that this was his first offense and reiterated his deep regret for the incident. “I am truly remorseful for my actions and I promise not to repeat them. I sincerely apologize to everyone affected,” he concluded.
