“We sincerely apologize for this incident. Our current priority is to ensure that all passengers and crew receive the fastest and best possible care. We are also maintaining close coordination with all relevant parties on the ground,” said KAI Vice President of Corporate Communication, Anne Purba, in a statement released on Monday, April 27.
KAI acknowledges the significant distress this accident has caused to passengers and their families. At this moment, emergency teams are working tirelessly at the scene to carry out rescue operations and evacuations.
“We understand that this situation is causing great concern for our customers and the families awaiting news. Our entire effort is currently focused on the evacuation process for passengers and crew, as well as providing immediate medical attention to those injured at the site, with passenger safety remaining our absolute priority,” Anne added.
Footage obtained by Kumparan reveals the severity of the crash, showing the women-only carriage of the KRL split open after being struck by the Argo Bromo train. The impact caused the commuter train to derail, leaving the women’s carriage in a severely mangled state.
Emergency responders were seen evacuating a number of injured passengers from the wreckage as rescue efforts continue.
