President Prabowo Subianto officially inaugurated 1,061 Merah Putih Village Cooperatives (KDMP) on Saturday, May 16, 2026, marking a significant milestone in Indonesia’s rural economic development. The landmark ceremony was held in Nglawak Village, Kertosono District, Nganjuk Regency, East Java.
The event saw a strong show of support from the Merah Putih Cabinet, with Social Affairs Minister Saifullah Yusuf (Gus Ipul) leading the delegation. Notable attendees included Coordinating Minister for Food Zulkifli Hasan, Minister of Cooperatives Ferry Juliantono, Coordinating Minister for Community Empowerment Muhaimin Iskandar, Minister of Home Affairs Tito Karnavian, and Minister of Finance Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa. Representatives from various government agencies, the legislative bodies (DPR and DPD), as well as regional heads and village leaders, were also in attendance to witness the launch.
During his address, President Prabowo highlighted the remarkable efficiency of the project, noting that the transition from initial concept to physical reality took less than a year. The construction phase, which spanned from November 2025 to May 2026, resulted in the rapid operational readiness of over a thousand facilities in just seven months.
These cooperatives are designed to serve as hubs for economic activity, providing essential services such as the sale of basic necessities (sembako), the distribution of subsidized fertilizers, access to affordable credit, and the procurement of grain from local farmers.

Looking ahead, the President has set an ambitious target to have 20,000 KDMP units operational by August 2026. For President Prabowo, this achievement serves as a testament to the government’s capability to drive national progress through collaborative determination and unified action.
“We must not be a defeated nation. We are destined to be a winning, strong, and rising nation,” the President asserted. “We proved it today, and we will prove it again in August with at least 20,000 cooperatives established.” He further outlined the government’s roadmap, including the launch of 1,000 Fishing Village cooperatives by December and the development of numerous new schools and People’s Schools by 2027.
Expressing his gratitude to his cabinet for their teamwork, President Prabowo emphasized that these cooperatives are intended to be a shared collective strength to foster prosperity and unity among the Indonesian people.
“Let us move forward with confidence. These cooperatives belong to all of us and will serve as our collective power to help Indonesia,” he stated. “Our economy is built on the principle of family, as enshrined in the Constitution. This means the strong should pull up the weak, and the wealthy should assist the poor.”
