Jakarta, IDN Times – A recent survey by Litbang Kompas, the research and development arm of the Kompas daily newspaper, reveals the latest public trust ratings for the Indonesian National Police (Polri). The survey, conducted in October 2025, indicates a significant level of confidence in the institution.
The survey results show that 76.2 percent of respondents expressed either “high confidence” or “confidence” in Polri. This positive finding was addressed by Brigadier General Trunoyudo Wisnu Andiko, Head of the Public Information Bureau of the Police Public Relations Division, on Thursday, November 13, 2025.
“This achievement is certainly something to be grateful for. However, Polri acknowledges that there are still shortcomings that need to be addressed, whether in service, the conduct of officers, or consistency in law enforcement,” said Brigadier General Andiko.
1. National Police Chief Instructs Ranks to Maintain Public Trust
Brigadier General Andiko explained that these results are a direct consequence of the instructions given by the National Police Chief, General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, to all ranks to safeguard the public’s trust.
“Polri continues to learn, remains open to criticism, and is committed to self-improvement to become more professional, responsive, and to cultivate more humane behavior among its officers, as well as improve the quality of public service,” he stated.
“This momentum serves as motivation to strengthen public trust through concrete actions to work even better, be closer to the community, and more consistently uphold the public mandate,” Brigadier General Andiko continued.
2. Strategic Communication Management After Polri Crisis Heads in a Positive Direction
The Litbang Kompas survey in October 2025 also noted an increase, or rather a recovery, in public trust towards the Police Force.
The figures indicate a rise following the riots that occurred at the end of August 2025. Public perception and satisfaction with Polri are showing signs of improvement.
Litbang Kompas stated that this improved positive image and level of public satisfaction demonstrate that the strategic communication management employed by the Polri institution in the aftermath of the crisis is moving in a positive direction in the eyes of the public.
3. Public Hopes the Polri Reform Team Will be the Main Driver of Institutional Transformation
Polri’s efforts to demonstrate openness to external evaluation, provide swift assistance to victims and their families affected by the riots, and ensure transparent information dissemination have ultimately helped to restore public confidence.
In this regard, the establishment of a reform team serves as a bridge between the public’s expectations and the institution’s ability to improve itself significantly.
Therefore, Litbang Kompas suggests that the public hopes that in the future, the Polri Internal Reform Team or the Commission for the Acceleration of Polri Reform will be able to move beyond its symbolic function and become the primary driver of institutional transformation.
