Initially, the Indonesia U-22 national team was placed in Group C alongside formidable opponents Myanmar, the Philippines, and Singapore. Despite these withdrawals, Cambodia confirmed its participation in 13 other sports, demonstrating a continued presence in swimming, athletics, e-sports, fencing, gymnastics, jiujitsu, kickboxing, taekwondo, equestrian, jet ski, triathlon, tekball, and volleyball.
Sumardji wasted no time in highlighting the benefits derived from Cambodia’s withdrawal and the subsequent group reshuffle. As a result, the Indonesia U-22 national team will now only compete in two Group C matches, facing Myanmar and the Philippines.
“Yes, of course, it’s very good,” Sumardji confirmed to BolaSport.com on Monday, December 1, 2025. “So, we will only play two matches against Myanmar and the Philippines. We were supposed to play against Singapore, but they have moved to Group A.”
The departure of Cambodia from the tournament necessitated a revised match schedule for the Indonesia U-22 national team. Under the guidance of coach Indra Sjafri, the team is now set to clash with the Philippines on December 8, 2025, followed by a showdown against Myanmar on December 12, 2025.

Coach Indra Sjafri has already announced the 23-player squad designated for the SEA Games 2025. However, four key overseas players – Mauro Zjisltra, Ivar Jenner, Marselino Ferdinan, and Dion Markx – have yet to join the team. Mauro and Dion are expected to arrive in Thailand tonight, while Marselino and Ivar are slated to join the contingent on December 3, 2025.

“This provides the players with ample time to continue their training, refine tactics, strengthen their mental resilience, and enhance their physical condition while in Thailand before the actual matches commence,” Sumardji elaborated.
Regarding the team’s overarching objective, Sumardji asserted that the target remains resolute and unchanged. The squad, led by players like Rafael Struick, is under strict mandate to secure the coveted gold medal, thereby defending their outstanding achievement from the 2023 SEA Games in Cambodia.
“The target remains precisely the same: to clinch the gold medal,” Sumardji reiterated with conviction.
Sumardji, who will serve as the manager for the Indonesia U-22 national team, intends to travel to Thailand in the near future. He is currently in Jakarta but has had to adjust his travel plans.
“My trip to Thailand has been postponed because, as we know, there have been changes to the match schedule,” he explained. “I might head there on December 4, 2025.”
