Sidoarjo School Collapse: Death Toll Rises to 15

A joint search and rescue (SAR) team has successfully evacuated another victim from the collapsed Ponpes Al-Khoziny building in Buduran District, Sidoarjo. This recovery, made on the sixth day of search operations on Saturday (4/10), unfortunately found the victim deceased. This tragic development adds to the growing count of fatalities from the disaster.

Nanang Sigit, Head of the Surabaya SAR Office and the On Scene Coordinator (OSC), confirmed the location of the discovery. The victim was found in Sector A2, specifically within the ablution area of the collapsed building structure. The recovery of the 119th individual from the site by the joint SAR team occurred at 2:35 PM WIB (Western Indonesian Time).

As of now, the identity of the recovered victim remains unknown. Following the challenging retrieval operation, the body has been transported to the Bhayangkara Police Hospital in East Java (RS Bhayangkara Polda Jatim). There, the DVI (Disaster Victim Identification) team from the East Java Regional Police will undertake the crucial process of identification to bring closure to the victim’s family.

This latest discovery brings the total number of individuals evacuated from the collapsed Ponpes Al-Khoziny building to 119. Among these, 103 individuals were found alive, offering a glimmer of hope amidst the tragedy. However, with this new recovery, the confirmed death toll has tragically risen to 15. Search operations are still actively ongoing as 48 individuals remain unaccounted for, intensifying efforts to locate them.
