The prolonged leadership dualism within the Partai Persatuan Pembangunan (PPP) has finally reached an end. Muhamad Mardiono and Agus Suparmanto, the two general chairman candidates who previously contested in the 10th National Congress (Muktamar X), have formally agreed to a reconciliation. This crucial agreement signals a unified path forward for the party.
A senior politician and former PPP spokesperson, Usman M. Tokan, revealed the instrumental role of a mediator in brokering this significant reconciliation. “Praise be to God, there were compassionate individuals who endeavored to bring both parties together. They were engaged in communication, eventually leading to a meeting and discussion. Ultimately, a mutual agreement was reached,” Usman explained when contacted on Tuesday (October 7).

According to Usman, the pivotal meeting between Muhamad Mardiono and Agus Suparmanto took place after the Ministry of Law and Human Rights (Kemenkumham) officially signed the leadership decree (SK) submitted by Mardiono’s faction. He further reiterated, “Following that, these benevolent individuals facilitated the encounter between the two.”
However, Usman opted to keep the identity of the key mediator, instrumental in resolving the PPP’s internal strife, undisclosed.
Usman added that with the reconciliation agreement now firmly in place, the PPP is prioritizing the completion of its formal leadership structure, which has already received government approval. The latest decree outlines three primary positions: the General Chairman, Secretary General, and General Treasurer. “Once this decree is in effect, both sides will promptly reconvene to finalize the comprehensive leadership composition. Each faction will put forward their nominees to serve in the PPP leadership for the 2025–2030 term,” he elaborated.

Usman further clarified that upon the finalization of the party structure, the PPP plans to convene a National Working Meeting (Mukernas). This Mukernas will serve as a foundational step to prepare for the crucial 2029 general elections. The party, identifiable by its Ka’bah symbol, is determined to regain its representation in Senayan (the Indonesian parliament). “The programs will, of course, be geared towards electoral success and the structural reorganization necessitated by the previous dualism. The work programs will be meticulously crafted to ensure qualification for Senayan, aligning with the targets previously set by each general chairman,” he stated, adding, “This unification means two concepts will be integrated during the Mukernas.”

The recently issued PPP leadership decree for the 2025–2030 period confirms Muhamad Mardiono as the General Chairman. Agus Suparmanto has been appointed to the position of Deputy General Chairman, while Taj Yasin Maimoen is designated as the Secretary General.
Minister of Law Supratman Andi Agtas underscored that the decision for reconciliation was a purely internal initiative of the PPP, free from any government intervention. “This stems from the initiative of all our friends within the PPP. It is something we are truly grateful for, as the General Chairman conveyed, we (the government) merely facilitated the process,” Supratman affirmed during a press conference in Jakarta on Monday (October 6).
No Prabowo Intervention
The former head of the DPR’s Legislation Body further confirmed that President Prabowo Subianto played no part in mediating or influencing the resolution of the PPP’s internal conflict.
“The President has always maintained that political parties should resolve their own issues independently. And today, it has been successfully concluded,” Supratman remarked, referencing President Prabowo’s consistent stance.
Supratman concluded on a hopeful note: “Earlier, we all embraced while receiving the ministerial decree, and today it is evident that there are no longer any problems between Mr. General Chairman (Mardiono), Mr. Agus (Suparmanto), and Gus Yasin (Taj Yasin Maimoen). Everyone is now in a very amicable position. We hope this unity will likewise extend to the grassroots level.”
